hawken

A single berserk reached us yesterday, after having come all the way over the mountains from the city of Willow, fourteen hundred miles away. He delivered to Alric a single package the size of a man's fist, wrapped in rags, and refuses to talk with anyone about events in the West.

hawken

Unsurprisingly, the week after I first find out about it, they move to Steam and now access to the beta requires a $30... accessory (early unlocks of otherwise earned-thru-play stuff) purchase. Also, there seem to be many complaints from the veteran players that gameplay has gone from strategic slugfests to dumbed down twitchery. Also the usual "now it's just p2w" complaints as with (and as true) most other f2p.

Anyone with prior experience with this? Once it leaves beta, it will truly be f2p again, with any $$$ spent going towards stuff you'd end up acquiring through playing anyway (though some now say it's become more grindy to encourage those with no patience).

it's kinda funny there are 'veteran players' when the game is still in a beta phase

i think adhesive games made a good choice here, you lose all of the younger players who wouldn't be able to pay for the game and all of the trolls who aren't willing to drop 30$.

who cares if a beta is p2w, it isn't even the full game yet!
kinda odd it will go back to f2p once it leaves beta, but hey mech games are so 1990s so who can really blame them

I think the main reason for the complaints was that instead of being somewhat unique in its overall (slower) gameplay, it's now just CoD with mechs. It's had an unusually long "beta", so it's misleading to imply that it wasn't enough time to master it as it stood before the last patch and Steam walkover.

What would a troll do in that game? Team kill? Could you do that consistently on Steam and not have repercussions?

How young is "younger" players? Under 12? Because the entire console (which Steam is aiming at now) gaming market is targeted at mouth-breathing teenagers or neckbeard 20-year-olds who have no problem dropping $30. If weeding out brats were the intent, I think not catering to the CoD crowd would've been a better strategy.

I think they took away some of the min-max aspect of customization (tuning?). Making a game less complicated typically indicates you want a dumber or lazier (read: bigger) audience.

Does this game have deformable terrain and realistic armour penetration tables?

Edit: I spent 2 seconds watching a video on this and I can confirm that it has neither and is nothing but fantasy armour suit nonsense. Unreal Tournament/Quake all over again. Tribes and Marathon/Halo were more interesting. This game is worthless.

Edit2: You should play something more this speed, WWO.

Took an online quiz for what my ideal state to live in would be. Turns out it's Vermont. Not sure what that says about me.
