1v1 Proving Grounds map pack

A single berserk reached us yesterday, after having come all the way over the mountains from the city of Willow, fourteen hundred miles away. He delivered to Alric a single package the size of a man's fist, wrapped in rags, and refuses to talk with anyone about events in the West.

1v1 Proving Grounds map pack

Post by SamTheButcher »

I made a map pack for more even 1v1's. I took all the regular units from the standard FFA maps and placed them on the PG/KG mesh. The 2 start positions are far East and far West. The reason for this and what makes it different than playing 1v1's on standard FFA maps is each Player has an equal quality start position, there are no bad starts. There is no middle hill that you have to race to or hope your opponent will let you up the hill. With this you can actually march in formation to battle instead of how 1v1s usually go on a FFA map where you race to get to the hill. Because as you all know if you dont race to the hill and if you let your opponent own it you pretty much lost before the fight even starts. Also you wont have your units scattered out as they all run to the top of the hill with your fast units in front and slow units left behind. Which a lot of times in a 1v1 like that it becomes mostly about who clicks fastest, since you dont usually have time to form your units up before you attack. You start fighting from basically a rabble. This is also more like the types of fights you would have as a flank or squad in a big 2 team game.

I removed the free puss from the map except on the PG/KG variants where the free is part of it. This does have PG/KG variants. An advantage to playing it on here is that both Players have even start positions. I left free puss but I put an equal amount of puss on both sides.

Pretty much thats it. Its another way to have 1v1's with all the standard units set but with this both Players are on a level playing field. Its not just a race to take the center hill. I think it highlights a slightly different skill set than 1v1's on FFA maps. Being that you can be in formation and execute an attack instead of the more reactionary type fighting that happens when both Players have their units scattered running to the middle hill. This adds some variety to 1v1's.

There are Lmoth/Koth/STB/BC game types on all of them. Chest and Float have their respective Assassin unit sets also.

Get it here until I get it up at the Tain:
