Back in like 2006 or 2007 I was driving through Connecticut and I stopped for coffee with Newskin. We stopped by his house too for a bit and I met his family. They were super nice and it was a really wholesome all America feel. It makes me feel sad to see all the shit he puts on Facebook. I hope he's just trolling, because he threw away a lot of great support if the meth and heroin shit is actually a real thing.

Yes. I have a Masters in Psych. That is all relative. Its like the argument of being born gay vs choosing to be gay. Being gay isn't essential for survival. There is nothing within our genetics that would make someone be born no attracted to the opposite sex; because that is the attraction vital for reproduction. Its a choice. Are there other factors that go into it, as far as genetic makeup and what not? Yes. But it comes down to actively making a choice. You mean to tell me someone who has never drank nor done drugs is addicted to a substance just because of genetics? How is that even possible? They were exposed to it, liked the sensation, and their genetic weakness is the reason they are not able to easily come off of it. Also, because the body then begins to crave that drug and addiction.

My point is, if it was never started in the first place, you can't be addicted. If it was once started, you can become addicted by choice, and also opens the door to relapsing.

This is a ridiculous over simplification of natural selection. It is entirely conceivable that genetic predisposition for homosexuality exists and is in fact wide spread, and even selected for!

For example if homosexuality is widespread in a group it produces preferential selection in favour of the remaining heterosexuals. This should be obvious from the example of machismo in modern civilization etc. Furthermore in pre monogamist groups there may have been no clear distinction, ie, bisexualism.

With regard to addiction to external substances humans have been ingesting drugs for pretty much our entire evolutionary history, see the stoned ape thoery etc. It is well known that addiction can be reinforced from inhereted genetics. In the modern context social pressure should not be discounted either. I don't think anyone studying the issue today would argue that addiction in entirely predetermined, but likewise it would be a mistake to ignore the genetic issue. Kirks argument doesn't really go anywhere beyond some kind of temperance exaltation. You know, pretty much everyone in western civilization is addicted to sugar and caffeine- does make all those junkies equivalent to heroin addicts? Are these people just weaklings in kirks view?

Now to be sure, I'm not suggesting this is or isnt he case with newskin. I have no idea. It could very well be purely egotistical narcissism. Who knows.

I am addicted to coffee. If I wanted to stop, I could choose to. But it wakes me up and alleviates my headaches. Switch, I've numerous time spent in the field on gender studies, addiction, and abnormal behavior. While all these addictions and diagnoses deserve to be treated like a real disease, I am still disagreeing with the fact that people are born addicted to a substance, or favor homosexuality upon birth. It doesn't make sense. You don't see that across any other living beings out there, and if you do, its a freak thing. If people were genetically made to be attracted to the same sex, we wouldn't have the necessary tools for survival. Its about basic logic and instincts, and that's what I'm arguing. I'm not throwing shit at the wall hoping it will stick, I actually know what I'm talking about. Its not what people want to hear; everyone wants a scientific theory for why they act the way they do or to give them a handicap belief for the issues that they have. Genetic predisposition I do believe and understand, but there are certain things that come down to simple nurture and choice.
