an interesting article
touching on a few of the points in the article, i'm curious to wonder if MYTH was able to be played as it was intended by it's developers... was it ever realized? in that sense, was Myth II the vision of Myth TFL realized?
playing myth in the late 90s... your computer monitor was huge and weighed a few bricks, but you could see so little of what was actually taking place in the game at 640 x 480 resolution... your keyboard keys were huge and clunky, you had a mouse.. with a ball... did the occurrence of the games realization come forth with high-speed Internets or patchwork post b.net ?
is this the same beaten argument we concluded in the forums of "you weren't better 10 years ago" in a different shade? could be. the game at release was a raw landscape compared to the expectations of what it became in the years that followed.
with other games like DOOM making a comeback, where do you think MYTH stands as a potential relic to be uncovered and shared among the masses? it seems like it's only a matter of time. I guess one thing going against MYTH is that bungie never allowed themselves to get sued for the hard drive wiping virus so the publicity is on a lower level than Postal which made national headlines for being considered for banning in the United States due to excessive violence.
i certainly hope Deadhold doesn't share the same fate as Hatred in a sense of homage to a previous visionary title, but then again DH is a different game due to the additional dimension of player casted buffs and debuffs while Hatred was the same type of mindless shoot-em-up FPS as it's ancestor.
Postal is back, by why now, and should you care?
Re: Postal is back, by why now, and should you care?
I always wondered what would happen if Take2 actually DID want to do something like a remastered or re-release of myth 2. Would they use the last version officially released by Bungie? 1.3 I think.
Would they steal Magmas work for 1.8.1-1.9 ?
Would they talk (doubt it ) to magma about paying them for their effort
Or they can just repeat the past and cram out Myth 4 or something and that'll be that.
there is some money in a re-release of M2. Age of Empires 2 got an official hd release from MS on steam and has an active community of players casuals and hardcores alike, as well as devs..
Someone make the sacrifice and upload Myth 2 to steam greenlight as their own work. You may get flagged or you may not, either way mb that will get some headlines to stir the pot for Take 2 to do something.
Or or or, they STILL don't notice in which case M2 on STEAM GG LOL

Take Two won't, but someone has some interest.
Just needs to get off his ass and contact Take Two.

I was a big fan of uncompromisingly grim 2.5D, 3rd person isometric shooters and tactics games, back in the day, such as postal and syndicate, GTA, Jagged Alliance, etc. An interesting read.

The era of atmospheric 2.5 D was truly a golden age in desktop gaming, despite, or perhaps rather because of, the technical limitations that seem absurd today (get more RAM? 28.8k internet? Hard Drive space?)
https://youtu.be/VixAXik_IJY
It is extremely interesting that people like Lieberman would have raised such a critique that only 20 years later seems rather quaint, with hugely violent "realistic" shooters like COD, Battlefield etc now totally mainstream.

Look at what Beamdog/WotC/(Atari)/(Hasbro) did with the Baldur's Gate franchise. Like Myth, the games had been kept alive and expanded by modders. Beamdog gets the rights to re-release them, and either recruits or coerces modders to work on the new stuff. Legally, everything Myth is TakeTwo's, barring a modder's original assets (new units, animations, maybe even scripting and net code, but those are trickier).Revan wrote:Would they steal Magmas work for 1.8.1-1.9 ?

That said, TakeTwo wouldn't likely be doing the remake themselves. They'd grab a young development house elsewhere, and contract them to do the new game. They'd also probably poach a production lead from one of the moba publishers. I don't know how much solidarity Magma has (mercenary or Muskateer), but having a united voice would go a long way towards influencing a remake/successor.
[addendum] Vice is trash. Can't talk about a video game without hand-wringing over pretend violence.
Gaming changed a lot since 1997. The reaction to the shameless Postal homage Hatred, released in the summer of 2015, was almost universally negative. We've moved on, haven't we?...
I do still have a hang-up on the need for it to exist today, with the gaming landscape so very evolved from where it was in the late '90s.
Oh shut up and go change your tampon, idiot.

There have been attempts to buy it.
Take2 is not a publisher that care about its non-money making products and will refuse to sell on the basis that if someone makes a hit out of it they'd look like idiots for selling. So it'll be forever trapped in their vaults, maybe in 50 more years or whatever it'll fall into public domain (HAH yeah right)
I'd say have one of our russian/place that no one lives in Mythers attempt to upload the full game on various gaming platforms like steam greenlight and claim it as their own.. see if that gets their attention heheh we all know Steam doesn't police their own stuff.
