I'm making some videos. (Episode IV out!)

A single berserk reached us yesterday, after having come all the way over the mountains from the city of Willow, fourteen hundred miles away. He delivered to Alric a single package the size of a man's fist, wrapped in rags, and refuses to talk with anyone about events in the West.

I'm making some videos. (Episode IV out!)

Post by Silent »

Someone told me to post these here. Just finished the third one yesterday. Please tell me how shithaus they are (I know I fucked some stats up in ep II, not sure if the annotations show up when it's embedded, but they should on Youtube).

They're mainly for some people in FCAW that we're trying to convince to make the jump to Myth.

Also, is there anyway to update the textures for the units without using a plugin? Like how the detailed texture mega-pack (for terrain) doesn't work like a plugin?

Just a few revisions for second video - should make distinction between heron guards and heron guard heroes. Both Hg's and HGH's can get their heals stopped by certain unit blows (thrall, spiders, mauls). HG heals can also get blocked if they are hit by another HG or HGH. HGH heals can't get blocked in this way though, as you can see in kg.

How did you get so much footage? I haven't even played some of the maps you used in your vids!

@Jottle
MyChemicalBromance. Here are direct links:
Episode I: GUI Tips, Unit Movement/Trading, and Multiplayer Conduct

Episode II: Wights, Ghols, Journeymen, and Heron Guards

Episode III: Dwarves

@killerking
It's all from games I've played in the last year!

@EW
Yeah, I think distinctions for heroes is something I should have done for all the units. My plan right now is:

Episode IV: Warlocks, Dwarven Mortars, and Fetch

Episode V: Archers, Soulless, and some corrections and clarifications

Episode VI: Melee Units (all standard units in Myth I and II)

Episode VII: Hero Units

After that it will probably be videos on gametypes, and then maybe some of the more popular (and unique) custom content like UTB. Keep in mind it could easily be mid-summer before I get this far depending on how busy school gets.

I would put morts in with the warlocks and fetch. They are on many maps together (2 of the 3) and using them in conjunction or opposed is very important.

@wwo

Yeah, that's good thinking. I originally was going to have them there, but then I wanted IV to be all magic users. Then I realized it'd be silly to go over UTB units before I covered all the standard units and put that off until later. I'll edit it.

Nice job, these were actually pretty enjoyable to watch (especially things blowing up). I would argue though that full health myrks are the most powerful non-giant melee unit in the game, though herons are way more versatile with the heals

Glad you liked it.

And yeah, at this point, I'd agree with you (at least for normal herons; I'm pretty sure HGHs will always win 1 v 1 against Myrks thanks to the pause from the Myrk going beserk). I'll make sure to address it when I do the melee and heroes vids.

Oh yea I think spiders are the fastest non giant unit. Zerks after that. Then gols, then herons.

@EW
Yeah, I realized that way back when I made it. There *should* be an annotation for it when you watch it directly on youtube.

Do you happen to know if Myrmidons or Myrks are faster than Ghols?

Forgot myrks.

Its like this Myrk, Bezerk, Spider are the same. Then gol, then heron.

Myrms weren't listed but from what I think they'd be same speed as the myrk/zerk/spid combo.

Btw there's a book called the Myth 2 handbook - it's all in there. Fun read too.

derp! aside from HGHs. I tend to see hero units as outside the box from "normal" melee (zerks, HGs, myrks, etc)

To anyone who got booted from the FCAW game last night; sorry about that.

FCAW generally likes to keep things in-house, so unless we're really low on people we generally don't let anybody wander in, and when we do it's up to Atom's discretion as to who gets to stay (and I know you guys better than them, so he usually asks me who's alright).

In addition to that, we generally only play FFA on TFL settings, so coming in demanding Big Team with M2 settings is usually a quick way to get kicked.

That said, if you want to play with the group, all you have to do is join the B.net group (link in OP) and we'll always make a space for you. It's generally been a good litmus test in the past; if you're not committed enough to getting along with us that you can do that, you're probably not committed enough to be a good guest.

Myrms are the same yeah. A lot of people think ghols are as fast as zerks/myrks/spiders when they're slightly slower so it's good u mentioned that.

People who have played this game for 15 years and think they know everything about it.
These people should really open up fear and poke around in the monsters folders and settings and look at the different settings for each unit and compare them.

Myrks, Zerks and spiders are the exact same speed 45
ghols are 43

There's a great graphic in the Myth II handbook that lists all unit speeds in descending order. Anyone have it? Would be useful for this thread.

The only chart I saw like that was for health, though I was skimming so I could have missed it.

Found it. It's nice to see this information all in one place! And it's a good reminder, as if we needed anymore, of just how ridiculous Brigands are. Slightly faster than a Jman. And about as good at blocking as a thrall. That unit had to have been created purely for fodder, nothing else.

out of the fcaw games i've played in, the majority have been exciting but far more chaotic than the usual games.
lots of informal and unusual play and troop movements, TFL physics add to the scene of chaos.

Good find, this used to be on Babyshaker's ~deer~ website.

Also when I see "jottle" I keep thinking it is Jotun.

Question on Fetch: Do you have to double click to make them attack up close? Sometimes it seems like they'll attack at point blank, and other times they seem to run way before that. Is it just that they activated their attack sooner in the first scenario, or does double clicking override their flee instinct like it does with archers/soulless?

Also, I know that water/rain boosts the range of the *scattering* arcs, but does it also boost damage? Thanks; I can't find this information anywhere obvious in the guide.

Fetch do not respond to double clicks. Fetch are the #1 hardest unit to master in the game of Myth. Trow come in at 2nd place.

IV is out!

Mortars, Warlocks, and Fetch oh my! You also might see Shiver go down on Balor! Hot stuff in this explosive/magic themed episode!

School's picking up, so it will probably be awhile until my next one, but it will probably cover Archers, Soulless, and possibly the distinction between hero and standard units (for those covered so far).

Great videos would you mind uploading a few to vimeo if you have any spare time? I am making a website for sharing videos and at the moment I am using the vimeo api. I'm glad that more Myth videos are being made and your doing a great job too!

Sure! It most likely won't be until next weekend though, as I'm on hotel wifi all week and the upload speed is abysmal (and I need what speed I can get for school stuff). Glad you liked them!
