a lot of people are wondering about registering...

A single berserk reached us yesterday, after having come all the way over the mountains from the city of Willow, fourteen hundred miles away. He delivered to Alric a single package the size of a man's fist, wrapped in rags, and refuses to talk with anyone about events in the West.

a lot of people are wondering about registering...

and why they need specific characters and jibbity hoo blah for their passwords. I've heard over 20 people complain about this in the last week, are there any alternatives or something? it's making it more troubling for people to sign up for the draft tournament, which makes my job less comforting :(

I made it easier once but Toxyn set it to be harder again as he doesn't want to deal with the spam. It can't be that hard to think of a password that that has 1 capital letter and a number in it though.

Password complexity requirements do not affect spam. They affect he ability of people to hijack legitimately registered accounts, not register spam ones.

1) I make it easy to register.
2) Toxyn makes it difficult.
3) Blame grim for making it difficult.
4) Paris was complaining about difficult passwords.
5) Grim says it can't be that hard to think of a password.
5) Dac and Aki charge in to hate grim by implying that grim was saying passwords make it difficult for spambots to register.

Classic!

7) grim can't fucking identify which object in the sentence was exercising with a subject
8) Paris was talking about other people's concerns
9) dantski makes remarks
10) said remarks are said to be true
11) evil jake returns to myth
12) dantski is said to have chased the cheese down the hill at least once

I'm gonna make this simple...
1) Disable the complexity requirements. If people get their precious Gjol account hacked, it's their own fault.
2) Disable all the stupid IP-matching for persistent login, etc. (might already be off now)
3) Enable a simple question/answer registration requirement. Make it something obvious and Myth-related but that wouldn't be the title of the first good hit for the question or anything. That should take care of the spam bots.
4) Fix whatever on the main page (i.e. not forums) is corrupting/expiring the session cookies for the forum.

For bonus points:
5) Fix forum e-mailing and re-enable e-mail validation.

Again, I made the registration easy as fuck as it was for MWC forums. Toxyn made it the way it is now and asked me not to temper with the settings. The reason given was to prevent spam. I'm not gonna do anything with the settings as requested, so contact Toxyn if you got something to say about things like that, Punk.

And Dac, stfu.

I'm not directing it at anyone in particular... does Toxyn not read the forums? Presumably one of the admins who does could handle this or at least bring it to the attention of someone who can?

Only me and Toxyn are admins here. Toxyn owns the site, so I'm not gonna go around messing with the settings when he specifically asked me not to for the reasons mentioned previously. Toxyn rarely checks this site currently. He probably gets an email if you PM him, though.

I'm gonna claim this is an issue going forward...

Anyways, whatever, don't take it personally. I just think it's important if we want this site to be a usable hub for competitive Myth activity that it be actively admin'd and as many roadblocks for users removed as possible.

Agreed, seems like there's a few too many issues at present which could be resolved.

Thanks to Toxyn for the effort hes put in, but could use a little more work ATM when hes got time.

I completely agree. Whenever I made a site I just made sure it's easy to register and use.
