Are there many newcomers to myth?
Are there many newcomers to myth lately?
Should we somehow inform them and arrange games to teach them basics to hopefully make them stay and show some interest in them?
I can join in on this and the more the better. Perhaps get a bluebar in lobby for one fixed day every week that more experienced players host games and help out?

Re: Are there many newcomers to myth?
I've seen a couple. Don't always get a chance to talk to them much, and they're not always interested in links, info, etc. But a blue bar sounds like a good idea. As long as some vet will always show up to host.Professional Killer wrote:Are there many newcomers to myth lately?
I'm working on some instruction/documentation, and another Myth-er is working on tutorial videos.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghBbUdr ... 0v5jT5Mgup I am assuming Jason is referring to my vids here.. anyway so far this is what ive done. I want to do more in future just let me know what I should do it on.
Re: Are there many newcomers to myth?
LOL, actually no...I'll have to pass those along to the other guy working on vids, and look at them myself later to pass around some.drunken_deer wrote:I am assuming Jason is referring to my vids here.
Re: Are there many newcomers to myth?
jason is probably most vocal of all newcomers, hopefully he can help get them situated and involved in the community
congradualtions, you've been nominated

PK already nominated himself. I'm a Myth-returnee. I'm doing other things for Myth (you'll see "soon").par73 wrote:jason is probably most vocal of all newcomers, hopefully he can help get them situated and involved in the community

Re: Are there many newcomers to myth?
From the logs, there have been more than I would have thought. Unfortunately a number of them show up, find they are unable to host games and disappear. Hence why I've put some recent priority on addressing this issue since it is fundamentally technically and thus fixable.Professional Killer wrote:Are there many newcomers to myth lately?
I was hoping that kickball could be this "time for everyone to show up and play" and it is still bluebarred despite being sort of MIA. If anyone wants to organize something else I'm happy to throw up a blue bar for it, just let me know.Professional Killer wrote: Perhaps get a bluebar in lobby for one fixed day every week that more experienced players host games and help out?
Re: Are there many newcomers to myth?
kickball is moot at this point because all the newcomers would be showing up to get picked last
Re: Are there many newcomers to myth?
Yeah a different format might be good, but the idea of a weekly time to get together and play is needed I think.par73 wrote:kickball is moot at this point because all the newcomers would be showing up to get picked last

How do you know that is why?punkUser wrote:a number of them show up, find they are unable to host games and disappear.

This Jason_ac guy is the modern day Elfroid.
That being said, there can be no redemption without Raziel and 'Froid. There is only Kirk and Pogue.

Can anyone tell me if I should be flattered or insulted by the comparison?grim wrote:This Jason_ac guy is the modern day Elfroid.

Re: Are there many newcomers to myth?
Hmmm. Interesting. What's exactly is happening? They're trying to setup their routers, and failing? Or not even trying, just being told "yeah, your hosting won't work unless you fix your router", so they give up? (in which case it's an education problem, maybe we can fix that...since your hosting workaround has tech drawbacks) And are they going away because they REALLY want to host, or because they want to play and no one is hosting? In which case part of the "solution" is more hosts/autohosts being put up by the people that can.punkUser wrote:Chat logs.
Re: Are there many newcomers to myth?
Usually they just want to play and no one is around to host, etc. Sometimes autohosts help there but they obviously aren't as good as a real host who is organizing games and responding to how they go. Usually after sitting around for a while asking people to host/play they just leave.jason_ac wrote:And are they going away because they REALLY want to host, or because they want to play and no one is hosting? Depends on your point of view. Elf was a fairly young enthusiastic player who had lots of ideas and energy, and was quite active on Myth forums. Some people seemed to feel he was annoying. My guess is the comparison is related to your level of activity/enthusiasm/positive-outlook on the forums.

or that you, too, resemble a young Harry Potter.
Re: Are there many newcomers to myth?
Heh, I was one of the noticeably active people on Case's Myth Codex forums (as The_Seeker), back in the day.vinylrake wrote:was quite active on Myth forums.

Raz would only come back if you were here as he told me before, Froid is off in England still wondering what happened to him because he made his mistakes and had no where to run and just wanted to screamgrim wrote: That being said, there can be no redemption without Raziel and 'Froid.

Re: Are there many newcomers to myth?
Case in point.
Re: Are there many newcomers to myth?
If you played Myth when it was a brand-new game (I did), the Myth Codex was one of the pre-eminent sites for Myth back in the day. One of the co-creators, Jaime Griesemer (aka Case) eventually went from the head of that site, to being a Bungie employee. Those forums had a lot of traffic back in the day. Case became a tester on MII, the head of Bnet for a while, then went on as a designer on Halo.par73 wrote:what is this you speak of?

Re: Are there many newcomers to myth?
Do you know if they are demo-only people, or have the full game?punkUser wrote:Usually they just want to play and no one is around to host, etc. Sometimes autohosts help there but they obviously aren't as good as a real host who is organizing games and responding to how they go. Heh, one of the autohosts advertises itself as a "managed autohost"...whatever that means. Sometimes I'm away from mine for hours, but often I'm checking-in between games, so mine is semi-monitored.
Re: Are there many newcomers to myth?
Don't currently track that, but qualitatively I don't see many demo-only people. Usually if someone bothers to get the game and figure out how to get online they can also find a copy of it.jason_ac wrote: Do you know if they are demo-only people, or have the full game?
