Gate of Storms needs a Twitter account
Enough said

To say... what?
Re: Gate of Storms needs a Twitter account
I'd be amazed if over 10% of active mythers had a twitter account. Kirk doesn't even have a post-2001 computer or know what twitter is and he lives on myth.

Re: Gate of Storms needs a Twitter account
can somebody explain what a hashtag is?
Re: Gate of Storms needs a Twitter account
It's just an optional convention that many Twitter users like to use (& FB & other systems). When you put a # in the text of your message, Twitter knows you're marking a topic category for your Tweet, and will let everyone find Tweets on a given topic. If you make Tweets tagged #MythSoulblighter, and anyone wants to, they can click to see every Tweet ever made by anyone that's tagged with #MythSoulblighter. It is a way of popularizing a topic, since if "enough" users Tweet with a given hashtag, it becomes a "trending topic", and more people notice it.sasper wrote:can somebody explain what a hashtag is?

Re: Gate of Storms needs a Twitter account
what could we even do with a twitter ?
maybe post when a game starts, and end (with winner name? lahl?)
or when the server has 25+ people?
i think twitter is a good tool to market stuff with but without any followers [and subsequent interest], no one will hear about myth 2 or gos

Re: Gate of Storms needs a Twitter account
Note that I do occasionally tweet from my main work account when there's relevant news (new patch, stuff going on, etc) and that gets some views of youtube, etc. but in terms of getting people to actually go through the effort of finding the game and playing it, you need personal relationships really... especially given that you can't just hop on to Steam or GoG and get it, etc.
Most people not being able to host is another big problem even if we could get people. I'm working on that one bit by bit, but I don't have a ton of time for development so it'll be a little while yet.

Most can't? I could. Once my life has a bit more free time in it. But it's been so long since I played Myth, I wouldn't even know what to pick! Heh, anyone want to start a thread about what maps/games/etc are commonly-liked today? Then when I host, I'll just do thatpunkUser wrote:Most people not being able to host is another big problem

Have you made sure that other people can join your games?jason_ac wrote: Most can't? I could.

I have a general "solution" (with some trade-offs), but it requires both metaserver and client support, thus it is taking some time to understand the relevant bits of code.
Re: Gate of Storms needs a Twitter account
I haven't tried.punkUser wrote:Have you made sure that other people can join your games?
Although I've done relatively complex port forwarding with my router to make remote desktop software work right, so I'm assuming I'd succeed with Myth.
I guess I'll have to try "soon". And then even if I don't have time to play, if people tell me what time they'd like to play, and what they'd like to play, maybe I can leave a game up, but not play.
Re: Gate of Storms needs a Twitter account
If people are wanting to try to get hosting working without having to annoy other players ("Can you connect NOW?") they can check whether their hosting works using the mariusnet webpage that checks your computer's setup.
If I remember right, the link is in the left sidebar on the main page and it's called something like "Marius hosting check".
You have to start a game then go that page and click the 'Check Myth' button.
It doesn't diagnose your problems, but it will tell you if your comp is set up right.
