Great Myth players that no one remembers:

Post by adrenaline »

I'm sure we all knew some mythers back in the day that just seemed head and shoulders above the rest at the time... post your list:

Luke - mostly a light map specialist, but was regarded as one of the very best TFLers by most ppl back in the earlier days... '98, '99 perhaps.
Chaoslord - incredibly skilled and did things that didn't seem possible at the time, like accurately predicting duds (still doesn't seem possible)... took me under his wing and we formed The Axiom
Shade - deadly all around player, also joined The Axiom at one point. I remember 2v2ing d*WAR*f and Acheron with him on mudpit light and beating them pretty handily.
T-Zoid (a.k.a. Leo D'Capitated) - was pretty much my mentor in 1998... taught me a lot. Took me from unimapping MMD and taught me a ton of skills on various maps. We formed WfG together with Slinx and a few others.
Grass - I think a lot of old schoolers may remember Grass of the Order of Tensack. Great guy and great player.
Ratphlegm - my partner in crime in the latter half of my TFL career... we 2v2'd multiple accounts to celest at a time when everyone had to cheat to obtain those ranks. Very skilled all around and a fun guy to play with.
PlanetGazer - I've brought him back a few times in the last several years... usually goes by the name Vogel when he logs on. At one point he was easily a top 3 TFL player... and first person I ever saw beat a team of fairly good players 1v7 on Desert BC.

There's more just can't recall them all at this moment...

Your list doesnt have shaister or head, but they're generally regarded as "really good".

Shade and Head were easy to mix up because they shared so many accounts. Shade was really good, but whenever he branched out to non-trow maps it's not really clear if he was the one raping everybody or if it was head.

Chaoslord predicting duds with dwarf heroes was ridiculous, no idea how he did that to this day. he would just charge the bridge and the bottle would dud on his duff's head and i remember him predicting 5 straights duds and my jaw just sort of dropped. he had to have some sort of hack, nothing else makes sense. I think he only played trow though, so not sure if he belongs on this list.

Luke was a ridiculously good melee specialist. if it was all melee (like most of light was) then he is head and shoulders above the rest, but otherwise wasnt really special.

Rat wasnt head and shoulders above people when I remember playing with him. He was good but not "omg why am i matched up with him" good the way a few others on this list are.

PG was good. He also was able to fit in with basically every group.

There are probably 1 or 2 more unrankers I'm forgetting, but shai eclipsed all of them by quite a bit.

I think I would add LI to this list too, he was certainly better than rat back then.

"THAT NO ONE REMEMBERS"

Shai still plays and everyone remembers Head. Shai was the #1 TFL player of all time... there is no question about that. Shade was not just a trower... not even close. He was really good at everything... trust me. Played with him a lot. CL was definitely not only a trower either... I played a ton of FFA maps with him... he was just as good if not better there. LI isn't on this list because he was actually fairly active again until a while ago... again, refer to the topic title :D But yes, LI was a very very good player back them, top 5 easily... up there with Shai, PG, and Head. He gave me his regular acct for a bit in an effort to convince ppl that he wasn't BNA Sojourn. It didn't work.

I think of the *F* guys was really really good too... Hadrian or Cosmo... I think it was Hadrian, though.

leadbelly and garnish were not very good at all, and both around until not very long ago.... Kalmar was an up-and-comer for sure. Used to 1v1 with him a lot and he was surprisingly good and improved quickly. If he stuck around until now he'd probably be among the better players around :D

Wanna hear about players that inspired you, amazed you, etc back in the earlier days of myth...

So anyway, Renwood was the best TFL player obviously because he won the only tfl MWC, and only MWC matters, every player listed is clearly inferior to Renwood for this reason

might want to rename this as Great TFL Players as that seems to be the only kind of players mentioned, and it is a completely different game. Also an inferior game imo.

M2 players? my vote goes to Jeff The Meek.

was in a clan with Fingolfin on TFL... he went by Fin Mudlord then. He was also Agent Smith on MWC04 agents team.

And GKG, notice i asked others to contribute... I mentioned TFLers because that's where i came from.

Well alot of TFL players never made it over to myth 2. Just like some TFL demo players never made it to the full version

As far as "inferior" it was a different type of skill. TFL focused mainly on puss/melle battles and constant micro managing in melle fights. Dwarves and Archers didnt have the range etc that they do here, and were easy targets. Some people could do well with these units, but most battles were melle fights

Wyclef and MeezerGeezer leeched celests of me for months. We were comet/sun/Eclipse for well over 4 months at times without losing.

Beating the likes of Head/4ButtedMonkey/Shade/Luke/Any other player then tried to play us pretty much.

Players that *do not play anymore*.

Also, you probably unimapped Web :D don't deny it!

The others you listed were great players on ALL maps.. especially head and shade... luke was more of a light map specialist.

Actually Head was not better at Web. Me and him duked it over over and over, I won close to 75-80% of the time.

Then when I started teaming with Wyclef, Head with Luke, after about 10 losses in a row Head whispered me and said that rank whoring was stupid and it wasn't worth it to play me anymore.

You can't remember anything from 14 years ago?

I never thought Luke was anything special at TFL. The only person who really stood out to me was shai and that was mainly with 1v1s, everyone else was pretty mediocre/shitty besides the few web unimappers. Probably because all the decent players moved onto M2 rather quickly. FFAs were always much more fun in TFL than M2 to me for some reason.

Oh I remember plenty from 14 yrs ago... but that was a pretty minute detail :/

And there were plenty of really good TFLers back then... you may have jumped ship before many were considered good though. The big change came when ppl branched out and stopped unimapping... and by that time M2 was already out and a lot of ppl had made the switch.

I only vaguely remember you, and I played quite a bit with Shai, Head, Apollo, PG, LI, Grass, etc... so that tells me you probably played more in unranked and probably mostly creep/desert with the tensack crew. There were a lot of good ranked players, too.

I played everywhere and played with all of these people in TFL and M2, unranked and ranked, the vast majority were bleh. Tensack was complete shit. The people that were exceptional then (shai, head, apollo) were also the same in M2 (despite apollo being vastly overrated), the rest were more or less just as mediocre, which isn't surprising. In fact, the uni-mappers in TFL also became good uni-mapppers at M2 and pretty unspectacular at everything else. For some reason I don't remember you at all but i'd probably recognize your ascii filled name. There's a reason why there aren't any great players nobody remembers.

Oh and I have to say, the lingering best feeling I have about not playing anymore is not having to listen to you constantly try to get us to add PlanetGazer every goddamn QR :O

Re: Great Myth players that no one remembers:

well... it's because most of those players didn't make the transition. I know LI played with IC in 2000, and I came over with him ocassionally to play TFFA... but my shitty computer made M2 almost unplayable until I got a new one in 2003.
Luke never played m2, PG hardly played m2, Shade never played m2. And I wouldn't say tensack was complete shit... Pepaa, Grass, and Ol Dirtae weren't bad at the time... gotta consider that the game had only been around for a couple years at this point. I didn't really get good at it until '99 when I got rid of my 14.4k modem and stopped unimapping MMD.

Planetgazer was the only person I remember at this time that posted a top 10 list that everyone mostly agreed with... this was post-bungie... in the early days of mariusnet. It included Shai, Head, PG, LI, me, Shade, apollo, psidon and clank believe it or not (they actually got a lot better when they started playing with ppl other than ~TC~), and a couple others that I can't really remember.

and ya... I'll rock my ascii name sometime... you'd probably recognize that.

I see you edited your post haha. I only had us add PG once! mb twice? lol... he actually came back and got semi-active at one point and was quite solid... but didn't stick around for the tourney :( That was the beautiful thing about huge rosters though ahah... it didn't really matter. Head never showed in 07 and neither did several others we had on the roster over the years...
