NCIX.com. They'll build anything from an arbitrary list of parts and they do a great job. Speedy, great prices, good support... nothing bad to say about them really.

They're a Canadian company and don't have any stores in the US. Their US website doesn't seem to have the pcbuilder section. They do have good sales sometimes.

Still good to know since I was planning on building a new desktop this summer but might be too busy to do it myself.

Newegg is good if you don't live in California or New Jersey (sales tax).

If you've got a MicroCenter anywhere in driving distance, get your big parts from there. eg. If Newegg and NCIS have i5-2500k for 210, MC has it for 180, etc.

Also, this is a great site to compare across vendors: http://pcpartpicker.com/

Oh yeah, Microcenter has absurd deals on mobos and CPUs, but in-store only.

Indeed, although I don't know where Ratking is from so I thought I'd throw it out as one that I use (I'm in Canada).

Surprising to hear that the US site doesn't have the pc builder thought, but I'd be even more surprised if they wouldn't still be willing to do it. I don't see any real reason why that would be a problem, but who knows.

Only if you use/like the start menu (beyond search, which is the same). I haven't used it for ages and thus for all intents and purposes Win8 is basically the same with a few minor improvements (copy dialog task manager, storage spaces, DX11.1, etc).
