nVIDIA Geforce 860m 4 GB Runs Myth 1.8 like Shit?!

I now have a newish Laptop. I was looking at a Myth log, and I noticed that Myth 1.8 Build 427 was using my Intel HD 4600 integrated video, (Max like 1600 MB shared system RAM Dedicated to the 4600) was being used. I had not set the global setting to use my nVIDIA Geforce 860m 4GB in the nVIDIA Control Panel. So I changed that global setting to be the 860m. But Myth runs like total shit all choppy and has much less rendering distance then when the intel 4600 HD was selected. I tried both Open GL and Direct 3D. Open GL CRASHES! And Direct 3D runs like shit like I said all choppy and lower max rendering distance. I also cant use the increased max zoom out in films. When I used Direct 3D this is what it said in the Myth Log:

Seems very strange that a dedicated video card (Intel 4600 HD) with only like 1.5 GB of shared system RAM would run the game better then the nVIDIA 860m 4GB Dedicated card. I hope this can be fixed. I can do the debugger build if needed.

sounds like your 860 GTX needs some drivers to be updated, the info you provided has said nothing about this option !
i have the same video card btw ! game runs better than ever.

every time i have problems with a program/game running the graphics card I look for updates and the issue has been solved 100%.

Yeah it looks like you might not even have proper NVIDIA drivers installed... ex.
"Adapter does not support DirectX feature level 10_0; DirectX 11 will not be available."

That card definitely supports FL10 (and 11), so this indicates something is not working with the driver. Similar with OpenGL 1.1. You're not running any of the modern backends here because the driver claims to not support them, so you've got some sort of driver issue.

That said, if it's smooth on your integrated card, there's really no reason not to just use that for Myth. You'll get much better battery life too :)

VRAM is mostly irrelevant to Myth these days... it uses maybe 100-700MB or so max, beyond which it is unused/useless. And most of that memory is not even "hot" so if it falls to DRAM it doesn't even cause issues. Even with the upgrades it is a very old game and even integrated graphics today are an order of magnitude faster than the best discrete solutions when the game was released. ex. you can easily hit 60fps with everything on and extended zoom on an 8" fanless tablet in Myth... your laptop is going to be fine.

I use the automated nvidia driver updater. I did a clean installation of my video card drivers and got the newest ones. When I set Myth to use the nvidia 860 in control panel instead of the 4600 it likes to crash in game in about 1 second in game. I even had to do a hard reset because nothing would exit the frozen screen of myth at 1 sec. Myth build 427b Crashing in both Direct 3D 11 and OpenGL. So I went back to the 4600...for now?!?! DUN DUN DUUUNNN!

Like I said, something is clearly busted in the driver install. Optimus is a source of massive headaches and hackiness and always has been so it's not surprising. Unfortunately there's not much we can do to help you here... you're going to have to speak with NVIDIA. Or if you value your time and sanity, just use the one that works.

Well thanks for the reply punk. Yea its strange this laptop plays most modern games flawlessly. It would not however, play the Public beta of Star Wars Battlefront in Oct. Some shit about there not being video card drivers made by the motherboard manufacturer that allowed the updated Direct X 11 custom update to work with the newly released battlefront public beta. Something to that effect. Did not care, FucK EA and DICE forever.

What? Overpriced, lower performance per $ hardware does not appeal. Also you are 16 years late for the mac vs PC debate.
