Qualifying Round 1, Three Game Special Review.

This saturday four Myth 2 MWC teams were successfully assembled, and two matches were actually played, kicking off Myth World Cup 2015

Image

Week one of the Myth World Cup exposed a number of weaknesses, and also produced some unexpected results. Fundamentally, Asmo removed roster caps and added a second QR week, seen here:

Image
Listing subject to change.

As the user count in the Madrigal lobby climbed slowly to about 30 people, the MWC players migrated to their assigned TOURNAMENT ROOMS. Therein, wheeling and dealing took place, VOIP network protocols were implemented and the MYTH WARRIORS assembled for battle. In the NC vs DEER match Ludde and Paris caught fire, ZAK landed a spot on the team, and Samuel showed up late to coast to a 5 - 0 victory. Overall, NC tactically out played the DEER roster. Deer was led once again by the redoubtable Drunken Irishman.

You can see the stats for the NC - DEER match here

Image

Meanwhile, the lobby army was strengthened by the appearance of Karma and Tirri, who watched over the lobby like iron faced stygian knights, although unfortunately, Grim's wildcard team of veteran Europeans did not otherwise play any games.

But the game I would like to draw attention to is from the event also played this Saturday: TMNT2 vs MoM:

Image

I'm particularly interested to see what happened in Game 3 of this penultimate, do or die, QR round of MWC 2015. But first, let's take a closer look at the teams and players:
This is what the team line-ups look like on this game of games.

GOD'S POWER

Ratking

"huge persecution complex on this guy, pretends people diss him..." -- WWO

"Ratking is MWC 2013 champion from GKG's team, and has played about 600 games winning 373 of them for a kill ratio of 1.13" -- Switch

"[He] won the first Kickball and Draft tournaments. Placed 2nd in Milk Man’s ffa tournament. Ranked 10th in GKG’s 1v1 tourney" -- Ratking

RAWR

"‘the peaples champ’" -- Ratking

SlateE

"just a slightly louder argos" -- WWO

"Died in the great satchel rain of 2012." -- Adrenaline

VieforPower

"One of the most under-rated modern 2team players." -- Switch

Argos

"apparently has been playing for longer than a year yet you'd never know from watching him play" -- WWO

"3 balls of glory." -- Adrenaline

Ratking welcomes the new recruits.

Genghis

"gk is a trowing beast. One of the best along with ew, gkg, karma and the like." -- Ratking

"Gonna go ahead and give him 5 balls anyways." -- Adrenaline

Genghis plays out some 1v1 with EW

Shadow

"You all kill myth!" -- Shadow

"suprisingly solid in the last couple tournies, good support player." -- Adrenaline

And their epic antagonists:

Generally Killing

"GKG & His Band of Merry Men" -- New Mutator

GKG

"Has the ability to take a prominent role while captaining... a skill not many possess." -- Adrenaline

"amazing micro and innate strategic understanding of a 14+ year old game..." -- WWO

"...GKG knows how to utilize his players to emphasize momentum, and depth of attack, in the winner-takes-all online myth 2 game universe." -- Switch

"'the big bad wolf' 'killer of dreams' 'smasher of hope'." -- Ratking

"dominated Myth Fighting Championship, a 1v1 league he ran in the early days of GoS." -- New Mutator

Current holder of the glorious Shinco Trophy

Asmodian

"constantly high on Chik-Fil-A, thinks he can captain because he's been surrounded by a minimum of 4 players vastly smarter than him every tourney; that won't be dispelled this tourney either" -- WWO

Wields the almighty Trow Belt in battle.

Captain

"Known for his fetch skills..." -- Adrenaline

"Played on TEAM ZAK (TMNS) in MWC13" -- Switch

"Self proclaimed best fetcher is a pretty good player but I can't remember him having any great tournament performances." -- Asmodian

Cruniac

"zer with slanty eyes, should be in pedo jail" -- WWO

"the other heavy-hitter for this squad, in addition to Samuel and GKG. He helped lift the Southern Parkian team to victory in 2012" -- New Mutator

East Wind

"...fits into a rare tier of players populated by people like Arzenic and GKG." -- Ratking

Pallidice

"has improved quite a bit... capable role player." -- Adrenaline

East Wind and Pallidice spotted recently collecting the bacon on Gimble.

Kryptos

"Rumors exist of him being a robot or some kind of spiritual essence that exists to forward the cause of good grammar." -- Ratking

"prides himself on his meticulous punctuation," -- New Mutator

And so these two teams, comprised of truly legendary forces of Myth devastation, are thrown together into the cauldron of Myth battle. It is far from clear who amongst them will prevail in the fury of close combat.

Game One

Grilling Grounds

The now classic "New" myth choice the "Light" mesh with a mix of warlocks and zerks backed by a pair of trow to emphasize shadowing and flank support. LMOTH, played here, is always a crowd pleaser.

Asmodian gets things rolling.
Image

Both teams almost trade exactly the same. GKG gave Asmodian trow, Ratking passed his trow to Genghis.
This is them deploying, straightforward, both develop flanks

Image

Image

Asmo and GKG position the trow, and they have a bro-down with noblesteed.

Image

This gets the action going, but this isn't really the point here. It develops into a colossal standoff fight.

Image

Image

A few of ratking's archers get killed, VieforPower and Slate are getting pressed on the flank by GKG and Asmodian. Eventually TMNT2 consolidates their control over the mid and Ratking realizes it's almost time to rush.

Image

So they rush, Genghis goes after GKG and Asmodian, VieforPower and Slate go for it...

Image

Noblesteed and Asmodian batter at eachother as Ratking's team slowly gets into action.
Image

Image
With weakened trow and most of their melee destroyed in the rush, it's short work to reduce the remaining few percent of the Masters of Myth to rubble. Ratking and company know they've got to find a way to out play and out strategize GKG and bros™ in the next map.
Image

Game two gives TMNT2 the opportunity to consolidate, but GKG will no doubt press his advantage...
Here are the stats for Game One.
Image

Game Two

Creep

As you can see, it's another redoubtable game of territories on Creep. This time GKG traded for more archers and warriors, Ratking has more dwarves and slightly more thrall. Limp is observing this game.

Image

Ratking and Rawr took their warrior packs south east, and TMNT went almost entirely south, setting up for a clash both mid and between the Myth Master's southern force.

Image

This plays out, they face each other across the river...

Image

It's not long before MoM starts to rush, puss goes down mid, Ratking and Rawr rush into the river.

Image

TMNT2 withdrawals behind the river...
Image

At first it's looking like the Myth Masters are going to pull a fast one on GKG- but no, a prompt counter-puss attack stalls the Rawr + Ratking flank and turns it back. Meanwhile, GKG rushes north to delay the enemy's mid force as it crosses slowly. An intense archer fight develops although the %s are down for Ratking. Both sides have expended much of their puss.

TMNT counter-attack!
Image

Ensuing firefight.
Image

In the finale, Ratking and Rawr rush Asmodian in the south, and TMNT2 breaks the MoM line at the mid, cleaning up the remaining pockets of shattered forces.
Image

Game Two statistics
Image

Game Three
Caer Cadern, Capture the Flag

This is the do-or-die game for Ratking's Masters of Myth: in the best of five series, they need to win this game to return some momentum and get them back in the match. A loss here means loss of the match. The pressure is on, in this high-stakes game of deadly serious myth!

As you can see from this side-by-side comparison, GKG traded for thralls and Ratking got more souls.

Image

Both teams are essentially mid with fetch and supported by attached spider and soulless flanks.
Image

Masters of Myth are able to grab the mid hill, putting some space between the TMNT2 fetch line.

Image

Cruniac zaps Argos and RAWR and East Wind battle it out.
Image

Argos comes in with a spiderflank and puts some heat on GKG's soulless setup, but Cruniac is quick to react.
Image

Genghis pushes up while Cruniac is distracted and goes for a fetch exchange. Cruniac reacts again and Lighting arcs through the air, blasting past the stygian footsoldiers...
Image

Genghis's fetch blast hits home, cooking two of Cruniac's fetch. A moment later a well placed javelin from GKG slays Genghis' wounded fetch, shortly followed by a second: so it's even 6 vs 6 fetch.
Image

Image

GKG scores another two of Argos' soulless, but Genghis keeps up the pressure mid.
Image

At this point there's a LAG BURST! Genghis lags out and drops and both his fetch get wasted in seconds.

Image

Image

Image

With the game now handily swung in GKG's favor, the mid and flanks are quick to close in and rush the remaining MoM forces.
Image

Image

Image
The carnage is immense and there's not much more the Masters of Myth can do. Argos loses his soulless and TMNT closes in: the game is soon concluded when Asmodian's spiders tag the MoM flag, and TMNT2 wins the match as a result!

Exceptional quality, especially using my purposefully antagonistic ratings.

One of the toughest matches in memory. I strongly predict another mwc title for this group.

I wonder how long until ratking tucks his tail in an attempt to join TMNT 2
One must consider that Ghengis has impeded this process last Saturday in some fashion due to his substitution appearance in the feature match

They were missing 3 of their best players and I would have to say at this point that NC definitely has a much better roster than MoM.

I can't really be considered as "missing" as I really never had any intention of playing anyways. I am out of town basically every weekend between now and August.

Hearing you make remarks in the forums how said team never showed up for you when you bailed on the commitment you created is as aesthetically pleasing as reading the ten page threat assessment you wrote about yourself last year; you honestly believe any of that crap or are you actually serious?

plz
