my damn chat wont go away

Hello, well I have the chat and the game announcements piling about eight deep in the lower left of the screen.
How in hell do I make it disappear like its supposed to?

Maybe your Up arrow is stuck or you have CapsLock set to "Chat Backlog". Shift-Up Arrow toggles the chat backlog as well.
