I don't think it has ever been made clear how many wanted rank and how badly. While there have been threads on the subject, its mostly a vocal few that post on it in a (trolling or aggressive) way that punkUser is inclined to not take seriously. The "Feature Priorities" thread in the metaserver section that punkUser encourages people to reply on, for example, only has 6 users mention rank other than him. None of them had it as their top priority pick.

Who knows, punkUser might find the info useful. Maybe if more had been vocal in that feature thread months ago, punkUser would have been compelled to work on a rank system instead of other things that other people who did actually post thought were higher priority.

rank doesn't give an incentive for people to play, except for the very few. the vast majority dont play myth to be the best, they play only when they have nothing else to do - to waste time.

For example, I'd have the highest rank, being a member of BME in the pinnacle of Myth 2 Skill.

Two things I'm working on right now are ingame stats/basic rank stuff and the new metaserver proxy stuff so that anyone can host regardless of NAT/firewall situation. The latter has a bunch of smaller things associated with it too, so we'll see how it all shakes out.

When the time comes and the rank is back up is it possible to implement the good old rank icons?
Perhaps its also clever to have the rank count only when its 4 players or more in a game. That way its harder to "cheat" your way to the top?
