Re: Camera Control
I'll post a vid og my camera controll aswell . As you said Gekko, its interesting to see the diff styles players use. It's very clear that how we use that cam movements are very differently from player to player.
I only use the keybord myself, thats what I'm used to though i tried a couple solo games the other night using the mouse but it felt all wrong to me since i've been so used to use the keyboard all this time. If I desided to train hard on using the mouse to controll the cam instead of keyboard and getting used to it perhaps it would save me some time during game to make other important jobs and getting a better view of the battlefield. Though I'm not sure how much handicap keyboard users really get vs players using the mouse to controll the camera as long as you can do it fast with the technique you have developed threw the years. My left hand are always in the same position all the time when i play the game and I don't feel it as a handicap that it takes much time.

Just some random game from today.

This looks more like how I move the camera, but I don't know how you dare leaving the trow running around at mid like that, if I did that it would be half dead. Must be the "myth skill respect" that keeps other people away?
I was a little surprised to see that the two top players here are keeping the camera almost immobile.
Re: Camera Control
Wow this is pretty interesting. Surprised this has never come up before (hard time believing that).
I have never even considered playing with kb camera controls only. Not that I have anything against it, it just never occurred to me. I use the kb for slight angle adjustments and of course zooming out at the beginning of the game. I also use the mini-map quite a bit to quickly navigate to places on the map. For most of the game I use the mouse it seems like.
I'll briefly explain my preset evolution. For a long time I used the f key to cycle presets. This worked ok, but always switched my camera angle around. The alt-key method of presets was never my thing. After being exposed to competitive myth for a few years I wanted to improve. It was clear that I needed to be faster. So, I screwed around with the prefs and saw that I could cycle presets with the mouse wheel. Was a rough transition after playing the same way so long. I went from 3-4 presets to (most of the time) just 2. Works much better for me, but I'm always open to trying new kinds of controls in some rabble games.
One thing that helps a lot is having my left hand open to hit the u-b-space keys.

i recorded a couple of games me and gekko played yesterday for recording purposes. there were a few others but i havent had time to upload them yet. im playing about as good as i can except im still trying to use the new 1.8 preset thing. every time i try to change formations during mid game, you can see a pause where i try to figure out which keys to press. this is pretty bad mid battle, so i basically just make formations for each preset group in the pl time and then hope i dont have to change them anymore, which really isnt a good way to play. id say a stretch of about 200 intensive games would make the formations come naturally but i doubt ill ever have time for that

Re: Camera Control
you are trying way too hard to click too fast. your cursor movement is giving away how overly excited you are with it bouncing around like its on crack. despite the fact that you probably click twice as fast as gekko you can't really dominate him.
don't worry, those are all signs of a novice video recorder. it will go away with more experience if you keep recording. just need to relax and do more thinking and less clicking. trying to click faster than your mind can think leads to more mistakes than benefits.
good videos, this is a good example of proper camera control. the quick preset changes are the best thing about your play style.
i easily see this camera control thing being the single biggest control issue holding mythers back skill-wise. we could have twice as many 4-5 ballers if people re-learned the proper way. for everyone that uses the keyboard for your camera: just imagine trying to do preset changes as fast as these videos, and use that same hand for your camera. it can't be done.
no top-notch 1v1 players have really stepped forward to using exclusive keyboard camera control, which is a sign of something. i strongly advise everyone to force themselves to learn to use the mouse for your camera as soon as possible. you can do it before this mwc gets into full swing if you start now. at worst you could aim for next TWS.

Re: Camera Control
i always click fast everywhere, its mostly restlessness and trying to keep boredom away. id do the same in any random meaningless myth game and my spamming is tripled in sc2 where its more fun to do. naturally my fast clicks are wasted now as i barely play myth and my mind cant keep up but they werent when i was more active.
i was watching the gimble film, masturbating over how well i play and noticed i have no idea what happens to my dwarf. can someone plz explain it to me. its from 2:53 onwards. all i can see is me selecting my dwarf, then moving it north to a safer direction and then selecting archers. but for some reason the dwarf turns around when i select the archers and runs to a puss ghol. the only explanation i can think of is that i press retreat accidentally when trying to select archers but my retreat button is actually k so it doesnt make sense.
can someone solve the mystery of var the dwarf?

Re: Camera Control
well obviously clicking in sc2 is completely different than myth, certainly much easier to spam clicks in that sort of game. actually i guess that might explain why you are playing myth like you are playing sc2. which also explains why you are not sure what happened to your dorf. i thought it was novice cameraman syndrome, but i guess it could be both of those things. starting to make a lot of sense now. really your cursor movement is just showing you as a very nervous player though, so shaky.
