I think PPE was changing the location of his server and maybe his RAID brokedown.

Good News: The server has had connections to it made and power applied. I can even remotely access the console via IPMI.

Bad News: It may be completely worthless. It is telling me "Operating System Not Found", meaning that it may well have died in transit. Still working the issue. RAID card is seen by the system, but it won't install the card's BIOS. In looking at the RAID card's config, it is only seeing 6 of the 8 drives in the system, but it is configured as a RAID-6, so that *shouldn't* matter. Doing some troubleshooting to try to isolate the issue....

Yeah his last post on the Tain forums was:

Server is officially dead. RAID array is intact even though it is failing to see two drives, however, it doesn't recognize any of the volumes on the array. I partially suspect something to be up with the drive backplane.

I've instructed the datacenter folks to pull it and ship it home to me.
I'm looking into ways to get things back online in some fashion.

Haven't heard an update since then, but hopefully he is able to get the data back and get something back up and running soon.

Server is in hand. The apparent cause of the hardware malfunction is identified, a replacement part is being overnighted, and I'm already working with the new (local) datacenter guys to get things prepped so that I can hand-deliver the repaired server to its new home.

For anyone that is curious as to the damage - quite simply, it looks like it was dropped (or someone tried to log on with a hammer). The drive backplane is completely bent/distorted at one end, and subsequently the two SATA connectors at that end of the backplane are cracked/broken. Not coincidentally, those are the two "missing" drives in the array.

As long as none of the drives themselves have been shock-tested to death, the replacement backplane will hopefully get things back up and running tomorrow, and at the very very latest, by Monday the machine will be live in the new datacenter.

If you hadn't been banned from every other myth site on the internet you'd be able to read the comments and you'd learn that the server company shut down and gave ppe a week to get his machine out of their server room.

It's common knowledge that (as Dac helpfully pointed out) mariusnet doesn't cost ppe ANYTHING, because it runs on the same hardware he uses for his pay site. The pay site covers the cost of hosting mariusnet. That site is dawgtalkers.net. Go try to visit dawgtalkers.net - notice anything funny? Oh it's down. What a coincidence, it's almost like ppe is telling the truth or something!

But I am sure to you that just reinforces your bizarre conjecture that it's all some kind of game, that someone is conning you (guess when you spend your life conning everyone else you see cons everywhere). I am sure you probably think ppe took his FOR PAY site down for a couple of weeks just so he could foist some crazy story about his server company shutting down, to give him 'cover' to shut down mnet right? The HDDs were not shock damaged. The back panel with the SATA connectors was damaged.

It's great that PPE has kept the community alive with mariusnet for so long. Having a consistently solid server for myth ensures that we always have a place to play and that people who haven't played in a long time can come back and find the community. I also think its great that we can have GOS experiment with new features and a different focus. However, what I am worried about is a further fragmentation of the community. How is someone who hasn't played in years supposed to know there is a new server. I'm all about more servers and more options, I just fear it could damage an already small community. There needs to be a way for more visibility for the new server and who is playing where. Possibly a server browser for both servers? A centralized who's online? Can the different servers somehow be more prominent in the client? I don't know. I assume the rest of you have similar feelings on the subject as well.
