Switch's Name Changers: Resurrection versus the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: 2.0,
Qualifying Round 2, Game Three, 'Murica 1776, Independence Day Edition

Five teams emerged last weekend and competition was heating up between the Myth World Cup contenders. On Saturday, the DEER played against the SocioPathic OWLS, advancing in a 4-1 match to the First Round of Double Elimination, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,in reduced formation, played the disheartened Masters of Myth, and repeated their 5-0 sweep from QR1. With a losing streak now ten games in a row, shadowy voices in the Myth online game world quietly predicted some team reshuffling from Ratking and the Myth Masters. In the DEER vs OWLS matchup, Drunken Irishmen let a game slip to the the, oh so sneaky, OWLS, but otherwise placed his team in good order for DE1, soundly defeating the OWLS lineup. New Mutator covered that game, here.

TMNT 2.0 played again on Sunday, fresh off their win against MoM, and GKG expected strong turnout for this highly anticipated Name Changers Resurrection match. What followed was a daisy chain of disasters for the Turtles, and a comprehensive victory by the Name Changers. Cynics were quick to point to the insignificance of the qualifying round, and apologists immediately acknowledged that playing Asmodian's QR map picks twice in a row was tortuous, and some even went so far as to register that all great leaders have at least one major defeat to their name; but it seems to me this devastating matchup exposed not only the strengths of the Name Changers lineup but also the weaknesses in the GKG approach. NCR will now have a relatively easy ride in DE1 against MoM or DEER, and we can expect a QR2 rematch with the Turtles probably in DE2, around about July 18.
Asmodian, June 29th wrote:I'll also post the bracket, but it will be Deer vs NCR & MoM vs tmnt in the DE 1 most likely. The only way this would change is if NCR would rather play MoM since they have not played yet (this is their choice though as they earned the #1 seed)

"Limp is a Myth old hand from the TFL demo days. He's had plenty of success over the years but has struggled lately to take any notable tournament wins. Some of us poked some fun at him for his map selections in MWC'13. He's certainly a capable player in his own right, and might be the glue that holds this team together." -- New Mutator

***

These are truly star-studded, powerhouse teams, both backed by 5-0 Myth World Cup 2015 match victories. Who will prevail in the desperate, close quarters carnage of mid second decade 21st century MWC battle?

These games were hosted by GKG.

Game 1
Territories on Barbarian Valley

Image

Here we've got the deployments and initial trades. Ska got 1 more dwarf and GKG got more archers.

Image

NCR strats for a mid commitment, while Asmodian is keeping an eye on enemy intelligence. GKG meanwhile sends everyone mid, with EW south.

Image

Image

Ska is north with a gholpack

Image

TMNT2.0 grabs the mid hill, with their deployment advantage, so NCR is going to have to face-off for now. You can see the deployments here:

Image

GKG goes to rush Ska, then realizes his mistake, while Homer tosses some puss at Captain's archers, netting two.

Image
Image

It's at this point that TMNT realizes they're about to get flagged by Ska's gholpack.

Image

Shadow and Cruniac rush to block, and its this moment that GKG's mouse runs out of batteries.
Image

Meanwhile, East Wind is caught off guard, and loses at puss ghol to one of ZAK's archers.
Image

Seeing that enemy is disorganized, Homer calls for a rush, and Ska + Sam approve. Homer and Paris rush in, pushing-factoring TMNT 2.0 off the mid hill. Asmodian has 28% at this time, as GKG is handing him units following his mouse failure.

Image

The heights secure, NCR settles in. Ska pusses all of Shadow's ghols, and you can see Knacker here about to lay low Tamer, in a harrowing Ghol riot battle.

Image

A moment later, Paris, Sam and Garrick move in with their pus, catching Captain and his dwarf.

Image

Zak pusses Cruniac's archers a second later, and suddenly %s and positioning are looking desperate for GKG. Was the hardware failure the wakeup call for TMNT? Will GKG be able to pull the team back together in the following games?

Image

Asmodian and Captain toss down some counter-pus and momentarily stall the NCR advance.

Image

But it isn't enough! Garrick holds East Wind on the flank and Homer and Sam keep up steady pressure on Asmodian and Captain, backed by ZAK.

Image

Paris and Garrick turn the pressure on East Wind, and it's not long before Sam closes in on Asmodian, and it's the final stand of Six Motion Bloody Jaguar. Name Changers flag TMNT 2.0 with two minutes remaining on the clock.

Game 2
LMOTH on Green Hell

Between matches, GKG restarted his computer and ZAK switched the TMNT as NCR added Genghis AND Limp, which doesn't bode well for the black team. The teams are maxed out with legendary all star units, and this is a zero error game of Last Man on the Hill, on the devilish third party map, Green Hell, GKG will need to pull out a win to keep Name Changers in line and avoid a possible Game Five.

You can see the teams and trades here.

Image

Ska maxed spiders, no doubt influenced by his trademark strategy of scouting groups, and the success of the preceding game, while GKG went for slightly more soulless and no ghol. The chat speaks for itself.

Image

Image

Image

As you would no doubt expect, the game rapidly develops into a stand-off fight around the flag, the kind of thing MWC players relish since it means the not bother to have to chase the enemy, and the rush and thrill of Myth combat is therefore brought to the fore.

This is the teams positioning with 8.40 on the clock.

Image

So you end up with ZAK way out on the flank with East Wind and facing Genghis and Paris, Sam, Captain and GKG and Shadow holding the mid, and Pallidice and Cruniac holding off Ska and Homer on the flank, north.

Image

Image

Captain zaps Homer's warlock and Cruniac puts some pressure on Ska's soulless flank, but otherwise the game is settled down into its LMOTH danger-close nature.

Image

Image

Wights are engaged, and both teams spread out to minimise the possibility of misfires or chance shots. Ska hands Homer some spiders and Samuel rushes in a suicide Myrk to disrupt Captain's lines.

Image

As the time ticks down and the intense warlock-fetch combat continues mid, Genghis tried to pull a spider rush on East Wind, but was repulsed.

Image

As the firefight is underway in the south, Ska is able to get a wig into position on Pallidice, nuking two souls and wounding others. A minor victory for NCR.

Image

Homer tries to rush another Myrk in against Cruniac but to no avail.

Image

Limp makes a beautiful block on GKG's warlock at this point, and Garrick's warlock shot gets through, crippling GKG's warlock. % are even at 91%. Carnage is imminent. Sam accidentally smokes Garrick's wounded warlock in a Fetch friendly-fire incident, a few seconds later.

Image

This is the situation at 2 minutes.
Image

I just want to reiterate how intense this is: 1.48 on the clock, you've got devastating fetch and warlock fire covering a closing zone of death, with numerous flanks approaching eachother with height advantages, mixed rush packs and the game objectives is at stake in a QR round of the Myth World Cup. Percents are 84% to 87% favouring TMNT 2.0., GKG loses a warlock when 2tone goes after him, and East Wind considers radical solutions. Look at the userbase predictions for who would host the MWC.

Do you guys remember this?

Image

Fast forward to mid 2015:

Image

Image

Meanwhile Ska and Sam's brilliant north flank has been checked somewhat by Cruanic and Pallidice.
With 1 minutes remaining, TMNT 2.0 re-doubles the pressure, Limp and Samuel putting Pallidice and Captain in a tough position.

Image

Image

Ska rushes in with his spider pack, everybody goes for it, knowing this is a do or die moment.

They minimise damage and contest the flag, and it goes to DEFCON 1.
These were some of the final images I was able to capture during the final seconds of relentless hand to hand devastation.

Image

Image

Cruniac was meanwhile fixing to crush Ska's soulless flank.
Image

Genghis' Fetch is vaporized and Limp sends in Thrymnir Coward's Master, with two kills, and Heron Guard Hero Four Flint Motion Sun, with one kill. They're in a deadly melee with ZAK and Crunaic: the stuff of legend!
Image

Image

NCR gets another wig off, taking out TMNT's souless flank.
Image

This is the final image. You can see Garrick, Genghis, Sam and 2tone consolidating on the flag. Asmodian, Captain, East Wind and Pallidice are closing in.

Game 3
FR on Spinach Between your Teeth

The decisive game. Will TMNT be able to claw back, or can Name Changer's Resurrection do the impossible? The haters and critics are drooling at the walls of the colosseum. The map is the classic Spinach between your teeth, flag rally which means power flanks and pro trow shadows are going to win this game: steady fire support and melee reinforcement will make the difference. Which team is ready to contest the Myth World Cup 2015 championship? These are question on the lips of the international community: literally millions are hesitant to know the outcome of the NCR vs TMNT 2.0 MWC 2015 match.

This was the situation with 1 minute of planning time remaining.

Image

This is No Unit Trading and Flag Rally: so whoever commands the battlefield, quickly, and is able to utilize scouting and reinforcements will be able to secure the vital objectives.

GKG expects ZAK to bail and thinks their best chance at this point is to defend North, presumably as a shield-wall of some sort.

Image

The teams deploy, for this epic game of games.

Image

Here you can see them deployed around the centre flag, flag I.

Image

While the trow shadow the mid, GKG is moving against the north flank. south, ZAK is holding of Sam. Pallidice is all over flag VII, but TMNT 2.0 will have to capture some flags to stay in this highly competitive QR set of MWC, Myth 2: Soulblighter online games.

Image

At flag III ZAK and Cruniac held off Sam and Garrick.

Image

Image

Image

East Wind thinks it's time to rush. % are currently tied at 93% with 7:49 seconds on the clock. Here you can see Flag VII held down by Paris and 2tone.

Image

This leads to a showdown over the centre island, with Captain getting a perfect mortar shot on Garrick and East Wind, putting pressure on Limp.

Image

Captain obliterates some of Garrick's soulless, but Genghis keeps his mixed melee force at bay for the moment.

Image

Limp rapes Captain's mortar in response.

Image

A second later, Garrick scores two of GKG's soulless.

Image

Meanwhile, on flag VI in the north, Paris and 2Tone put the heat on Pallidice and Dac, scoring a warlock and damage on several mauls

Image

At flag IV Cruniac leads an assault against Sam and Ska,

Image\

In the south, ZAK was held off by Garrick and Samuel'

Image

Seconds later NCR is victory imminent. In the North, the last major theatre, TMNT 2.0 goes into their death throws, being wigged by NCR, and facing an exhaustion battle at flag VII that the don't have the %s to sustain.

Image

Homer suffers a major dud at flag VII when his mortar dwarf fails to hit GKG and Asmodian. East Wind tries to blitz for flag VI, but was stone-walled by limp.%s are nearly even at this point.

Image

With the time ticking out and the %s holding, it comes down to some clutch performance around Flag VII.

Image

Homer duds with his mortar duff twice in a row, missing both GKG's soulless and Dac's warlock as a result.

At one minute 15 seconds Homer nails Dac's warlock with his mortar dwarf, meanwhile, East Wind is making ready to rush Genghis

Image

Image

This doesn't last long as Garrick and Genghis hold TMNT 2.0 off flag four and that's a wrap. Name Changers Resurrection wins the match! Around the country bells of joy rang out as the people greeted their glorious liberators with the legendary renown they deserved.
