Password for today's games is "steelydan"
We chose to do a password since there are a lot of people on who aren't necessarily here to play kickball, and we wanted to give priority to those who are.

Re: You were not better 10 years ago
Is there something more to be learned from this discussion? By saying "caved" I meant that you conceded the point I was trying to make, without acknowledging it. I just assumed you were unaware of doing so, though I guess it's possible you were. Poor choice of words on my part, my apology....

Re: You were not better 10 years ago
No you didn't contradict yourself, but I never said you did either. I agree with you except for where you say "subtle" and "negligible" to describe differences in trades. Those terms are relative, and I'm inclined to see them as kind of arbitrary. You can argue that point if you ...

Re: You were not better 10 years ago
That's a pretty good breakdown of what happened that I didn't think to speak to. By trying to be a hero, Xmas took himself out of the game (until he could reach the enemy flag) and seeing an opportunity, Ratking and Co. pounced. I didn't mean to imply you did a terrible job, Dantski! I'm pretty awar...

Re: You were not better 10 years ago
I feel like I got shoehorned into a position I don't really hold, which is that for any given trade there exists a counter-trade. My response is more directed at the suggestion that there is one trade better than all others given the game settings. GKG actually caved on this without realizing it whe...

Re: You were not better 10 years ago
Surely you're not challenging me, GKG? The example I gave was the CTF, The Barrens game we played last Saturday. I was asking your opinion on Ratking's trade. By the way, I have read your article. I'm pretty sure I wanted to comment on it earlier, before that feature was enabled by Toxyn. I'...

Re: You were not better 10 years ago
GKG: What's an example of an optimal trade? That would have to be made explicit since a counter would be contingent on knowing that. My disagreement with you is on a really minor point and like I mention before a matter of opinion. Besides it seems like there's some weird form of equivocation going ...

Re: You were not better 10 years ago
Fair enough, I understand where you're coming from. But those same criticisms can be applied to an "optimal" trade. And that's basically where my idea of a counter came from: a trade distinct from the optimal one. I don't know how a game will play out, which is why I'm skeptical that a &qu...

Re: You were not better 10 years ago
I'd like to chime in and say that, while I generally would agree that overall level of skill has improved over time, I don't know if it's really a fair comparison to make. It's kind of like comparing a modern human with our neolithic ancestors. While we would, I presume, like to think our capacity o...

Re: KB week 2 news thread
I don't think it's pointless (I for one would love to see it happen!) but I don't know if the benefits clearly outweigh the costs like Ren seems to believe. I can see such a feature being used, but it's impossible to tell if the significant amount of work needed to make it happen would be justified,...

Re: KB week 2 news thread
As has been said elsewhere, it's not just a matter of changing limit values.
Also, PunkUser already tried to emphasize that raising the player limit would essentially break metaserver compatibility with Mnet.

Re: Winter warm up - kb style
Usually territories games don't end in ties, or there are house rules in place. In the cases where they do end in ties, it's pretty intuitive which team wins in perm. It wasn't clear to me how the scoring was calculated, because any way I approached it, it seemed our team would have won. There were ...

Re: Winter warm up - kb style
Okay, after talking with a few of the Magma guys I've been assured that the rules do indeed indicate a win for team pewpew laz0rs. There are 3 criteria to determine a winner for Territories: 1) Whichever team holds more flags at game's end. Easy. But if that's a tie, then... 2) The game attempts to ...

Actually I did the third one you suggested. Just you and MM I think both suggested it. I started to do the first two but it didn't really seem interesting to me because I didn't have a context for what was happening. I already said this but you never responded!

Re: Video Intro
True. I wouldn't be doing it for profit but to increase visibility for competitive Myth. I think Youtube, if monetized, yields something like a couple dollars per 1000 views, so that's not a very viable option anyway.
I'll think about it some more, thanks for the feedback.

What do you mean the landing page? Isn't it already customized?
Yeah, I think a quick 3-5 second intro would be good. I can commission someone for this, possibly. I'm open to suggestions here.
And, I'm pretty much always ready--have you been holding out?

Hey guys, I thought I'd make a post here and ask your opinion on something, namely if having a motion graphics introduction preceding videos on youtube would be a good thing. By the way, a couple more videos are up. That concludes all the specific suggestions made by Milkman.

I've finished casting your suggested Axe to Grind game, Milkman. Expect that up later on in the evening.

Re: Films
One more thing! I think I'd prefer not knowing the outcome of the game in advance. It makes the game a bit more interesting to watch. So if you suggest certain films, you don't have to tell me how it ends!

No I got the films, but instead of casting every film I was hoping to cast just a few standout games. To that end I was asking the participants if they could help me by directing me to what they thought those standout films were.

I realize Milkman posted his filmpacks and I guess I can select films at random from those, but I figure I would ask those that participated if there were any games in particular that they'd like to see casted.

Realized I had very little FFA content posted, so this is a request for a a couple films of FFA games you'd like to see casted, such as games from Milkman's FFA league that just concluded. Just post here identifying games or pointing where they can be retrieved, etc.
