Top 50 Best and Most Succesful MWC players of 2001-2012

A single berserk reached us yesterday, after having come all the way over the mountains from the city of Willow, fourteen hundred miles away. He delivered to Alric a single package the size of a man's fist, wrapped in rags, and refuses to talk with anyone about events in the West.

Top 50 Best and Most Succesful MWC players of 2001-2012

Postby grim » 06 Aug 2016, 15:15

A definitive list of the best and most successful MWC players of 2001-2012. Here's a quick FAQ:

1) Is this the best players of all time list? No it's not, it's the best and most succesful MWC players of 2001-2012 list. Calm your tits.
2) How is this formed? I take into the account the players actual skill level and their success in MWC's from the 2001-2012 era. Players are rated on a 1-10 scale and every Top 3 finish in an MWC gives you points in the manner of 3/2/1 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes.
3) Why 2001-2012? Firstly: That is the time period I participated in tournaments. Prior to 2001 I didn't do tournaments, only played outside them. After 2012 I haven't played this game at all so I have no clue wtf has happened in MWC's after that. Secondly: Everyone sucked horribly at this game prior to 2001 and the MWC's in this decade have been giant jokes. It's just 20 or so people reforming into two teams to show off their e-dicks at each other. In other words, the post 2012 MWC's are irrelevant. Thirdly: exluding everything that's happened after I quit playing will most likely resort to a giant backlash from the marine core and the church of the latter day saints, so the success of the thread will be guaranteed. Additionally, I heard rumors that Adrenaline is fat.
4) Are these ratings biased? Hell yes. However, in 500 years when humanity is gone and alien archeologists are rummaging around the internet for myth trivia, this is the list they will remember.
5) How? All player skill level ratings are. I'm basing mine on honest assessments based on the time I played with these people. I am rating them based on how these players performed during the time period they reached their "prime" on and comparing that to the general skill level of the time. I'm putting heavy emphasis on how important these players were to their teams in MWC's. It's not just about brute bc force and 1vs1 prowess. Keep in mind though, that as your mouth begins to foam up while you feel your nerd rage level rise as you're checking the player ratings, that they are heavily skewed and biased. However, your own ratings are heavily skewed and biased as well. There is no such thing is accurate player assessments. Remember that. They are all equally awful. Also, not all MWC sites are up so I couldn't check all the top 3 rosters in every tournament. Therefore there are errors in the amount of points people have received from tournaments. Some placings are therefore wrong, but there aren't any major flaws there though, so calm your tits. I did try to weed out players from winning teams who never showed up however, therefore I didn't count MWC2010 to myself as a victory. From MWC05 all finalists got second place scores since there was no winner.
6) Why is my name not on the list?! You don't have enough tournament success. Aka, you either played in teams that didn't succeed or you were simply just too late to the party.
7) Why make this list? Because nobody is writing anything fun to read at all, except Seeker. I like Seeker very much. He is going to make Myth great again.
8) How long did it take you to make this list? One hour and 10 minutes.
9) Grim, we miss you, any chance you would start playing again? Nope. None. No motivation to do that all. Mostly because it seems that all the good people are gone and only the abrasive douches are left playing. Not that I'd have more than a few hours of a week of time to play anyway.
10) GRIM; GO CHOKE ON FAT DICK YOU FUCK; Ah, well you must be Kirk. Well, I'm sad to inform you that I have you muted so I don't see your posts.
11) Why make two threads? I was going to edit this list in the first one, but people already spammed it before I could edit it in.

I don't wanna debate, but to me, this list is more like 2001-2006 than 2001-2012

This is how the scores tally up, though. It just kinda shows how little variation there were in the end among the top 3 finishers during that time period.

He gets more points from tournaments than ew. You should try reading how the scores are formed :-)

Criticisms of this list:

-Flawed player ratings. The likes of chickenwire, rabican, ghengis, and kirk are getting 9's for individual skill, but adren is one of the only 5 players that get a 10? oh boy.

-Zero weight given to strategic ability for captains which are huge influences on team success.

-arbitrary years taken which are inconsistent. MWC10 only had 2 clear finalist teams from the beginning of the tournament and was one of the most uncompetitive mwc's ever. So technically mwc10 should not be counted for anyone as it is guilty of (in the words of grim) being, "20 or so people reforming into 2 teams." Meanwhile, mwc13 would have to be counted instead since it had at least 3 title contending teams. MWC14 would also arguably have to be counted before mwc10 as well.

-It gives an unnecessary amount of weight to longevity of participation by giving a huge reward to 2nd place and 3rd place finishes when nearly every mwc has always ever had at most 4 title-contending teams. So mere participation in mwc's on a top team (which most top players would be on) would almost guarantee points. Which also means having played in many more mwc's gives you an additional undeserved bonus. In reality this should be one of the smallest factors to consider and should come with a ceiling. Once you have a base of about 3-5 years played to give sufficient data points of comparison, having 10 extra years played should not continue to give weight indefinitely (especially when you admit that mwc's should not be counted indefinitely when you chose a ranged of arbitrary years only, another inconsistency).

-In combination with the above point, this is perhaps the biggest flaw in this list: it is like 60-80% weighted towards mwc placement (while also conveniently cutting off the last 3 mwc's I won of course), which is a completely irrelevant metric that tells nothing of actual individual performance (even as a contribution to a team). This is represented in how there are a ton of roleplayers on dynasty teams that are ranked way higher than they should be, while other all-star heavy hitting players are ranked much lower just because they did not have as many years playing on dynasty teams. For example this is shown in how Dantski never won an MWC, but is clearly a top 10-20 player, and yet this list barely includes him near the bottom.

A more accurate list would be based more along the lines of these 4 factors, in order of priority:

1) Raw value to team as a player (i.e. player intelligence and skill in large, competitive 2 team play) - around 50% weight
2) Captain / strategic ability - around 20% weight
3) 1v1 ability / raw BC power - around 20% weight
4) activity / longevity / consistency - around 10% weight

the first 5 players on the list are fellow Finnish. This is rigged. also I don't really care because the end date is 2 years before I joined.

It is flawed, rigged and biased. Already admitted that straight off the bat. Some people are also missing some points from those Mwc's that no longer have their sites up, but that would mostly affect people in the 30-50 range. Can't for instance rember if ludde was with Nc in 2009.

But it's not a best players ever list, like I said. It's a best and most succesful players list, so that's why mwc success counts so much.

The list is something fun for y'all to chew on instead of the usual radio silence we got going on in here.

Then a more accurate name for this list might be: Top 50 Highest Placing MWC Players of 2001-2012. "Best and Most Successful" is not really the same thing as playing on a top team that places highly. Plenty of role players who contributed little to their teams leeched high-placing mwc finishes from the rest of their team that were truly responsible for the team's success. Likewise, plenty of top players chose to help lesser teams out and placed low despite their large contribution. Dantski's individual performances in every MWC have always been among the best and most successful, even if he chose not to participate on top teams that placed highly. And he is just the worst example of many on this list.

Excellent list grim. Here are three important notes that you need to consider next time you make an article:

A. Every time you mention my name you get a +1 from me. Accumulating Seeker points are very important.
B. You managed to arouse genuine emotion from Cu. He felt very slighted that you put Ska above him on the skill level. Excellent.
C. Zak-related jokes are always a good idea. Putting them in any article will spice it up.

You have my scores for placings completely fucked up sir Grimothy.

3+2+2+2+3+3+2+1 is the correct score for me through 2012.

2003 - 1st +3
2005 - 2nd (as both finalists didn't complete the finals both finished 2nd) +2
2006 - 4th
2007 - 2nd +2
2008 - 2nd +2
2009 - 1st +3
2010 - 1st +3
2011 - 2nd +2
2012 - 3rd +1

and beyond 2012

2013 - 2nd (+2)
2014 - 1st (+3)
2015 - 3rd (+1)

This would put me at 26, not 19, firmly placing me in THIRD as well as being the MOST SUCCESSFUL MWC PLAYER EVER.

Grim's list is correct according to my evaluation.

Grimriggery was done here because having Limp as the third best player of all time is simply false. It requires data correction, just like Nate Silver corrected the data to ensure that Donald Trump was not the favorite in the 538 polls cast for the Republican nomination.

Hard to argue part of your ratings since you used a formula, but the skill ratings on the other hand... I see some glaring flaws in the skill ratings.

Calm your tits. I already adressed all that in my original post. Ratings are biased and not all mwc sites are up and I don't remember all the rosters by heart, so there's bound to be errors. I'll fix the errors that come up this afternoon when I got 30 minutes of leasure time with the computer. If you see some tournament missing from your score, do tell and I'll add it.

You're missing one then or Henry has one too many. Refer to previous post. Do tell what your score should be to make this easier. 2nd in 01, 3rd in 05, 2nd in 06 an 3rd in 2011?

I got a 3rd in 07 on ABS I'm pretty sure......... your're missing that one
Henry was on that team too.
Yeah we both also got 3rd place in 2007.

Maybe your counting henry as getting a 2nd place in 05. In which case I should get 2 there also as I was on same team Hand of Allah. We got elimmed in bottom bracket final so im not sure how you scored our team there. but I teamed with henry like every mwc our scores should be identical for tournaments.
I got uhh.

Mostly true, but if you are going to count 2012 as relevant then you should be counting 2013 as relevant. 2013 was probably better than 2012 as far as quality teams go.

Either they are both relevant or neither of them are.

Dantski, Samuel, Cave ,Captain, Kilgrath

These 5 people have the same Skill Rating according to you

Are you sure you don't want to come back and host MWC 2017 and use the salary cap system you were going to use in 2012? I wouldn't mind abusing your flawed ball ratings in order to get an easy MWC win.

Laughable that I'm not #1 in every category. Obviously more hate from grim because he has a deformed face.

Threat Assesment: Although Thundercox did not play as a team in MWC2K1, players on the current roster played for 12", Greek Gods and Cacra, all top-ten finishers. The quality of play is there, but so are the big egos. It will be interesting to see if they can keep from in-fighting that plagued Cacra during the qualifying round of MWC2K1. If they can work together they will be tough. Roster size could be an issue. Expect to see them in the quarters or semis. Saxum Pugnus says: OMG ????

Week three QR update:
In the Brown pool, there are 2 teams with unblemished records, and the Tcox are one of them. They play NP next week. That shall be one hell of a match to watch. Saxum wanted to upgrade these guys to eL33t ????? until I reminded him that grim is on this team :P

End of Pooling Rounds update:
Tcox get their 5th tro by virtue of schooling ... no ... humiliating ... no ... butt raping NP. It was as if the PMA team hijacked all the NP logins and learned greek or whatever it is that NP speaks, then got on and played Tcox. It was that bad. The only undefeated tean in the tourney thusfar, Saxum thinks they will take it all the way.

Finals Week One Update:
doing fine, no real updates need to be made here

quick research says the only other 2team tournament circa 2002 is FUCK which Np won as well

And why aren't the first two TWS included? TWS09 was more competitive than any tournament that came after it.
