Renwood SD2018

NE Patriots

STONEWALL

The owner of this site should add a tournament page so I can list the weekly games.
This first week was an outstanding success. 7 points games were played on stock Blue vs Grey maps, all games were two team.

The bloodiest game was game FIVE in which Renwood and STONEWALL topped 250+ dmg in a single game.
There were some close calls, one tie, and some brilliant calvary charges. Flank positions were secured, turned and exploited. Entire armies were destroyed in mass killing zones. Dozens of cannons fired hundreds of shells and solid shells and grape shot. A sample of the carnage is provided below. The Tournament will continue next week. Remember, this is a SHOW AND PLAY tournament, so late comers are welcome and can easily make up lost time with high damage performances. Highly recommended all players evolve custom formations to maximize deployments and rushes. Also, make sure to download the ADVANCED MAPS (listed at the top of this page) which will feature more as the tournament progresses.

The cumulative total shows that civil war enthusiast ndrwgn -ww2- has usurped Renwood's position to move into second place, with Kryptos and Argos both accumulating strong positions in their first week, positioning them well to close in on the third place spot. Due to a late start this week NE Patriots slipped down in the standings, but is still well positioned to contest as we move into week three. No doubt heavy damage in the advanced maps will play a large role, setting up players to break through the 350 damage barrier and thus secure huge points. That said, routine victories and especially team captaining is keeping the newer players and lower damage performers in the game.

*there was a minor addition error in my spreadsheet for week one, which I've corrected in the above post (it didn't include some of the games, so point totals are slightly higher than they were last week)

Recap: Fourteen games were played, including the first 6 player ADVANCED maps of the tournament. The player base doubled from 4 to 9. Heavy hitters for this week included Argos TGP who scored the highest damage score of the tournament to date, at more than 300 dmg on the outstandingly violent game six (STONEWALL and Renwood both also scored more than 200 dmg in that game). As reinforcements flooded in and cavalry charges were executed, deadly killing grounds developed, in which flanking cannon and sharpshooters poured fire into mass ranks of infantry and team captains issued desperate orders to secure key objectives. Battalion after battalion of infantry, squadrons of cavalry, and batteries of cannon were cut to shreds by bayonet charges, volley fire from advancing infantry lines, grape shot, and deadly high explosive delivered at point break range.

RECAP

The tournament increased its depth in Week Three. Fundamental lag issues and the disappearance of several core players scaled things back, but also provided a stellar opportunity for tactical evolution in a narrower way. The tournament advanced despite the exigent limitations, passing several notable milestones. Several new players joined the tournament, boosting the contributing player count to a high of 11. Argos TGP staked his claim to tournament MVP, crossing the 350 dmg + threshold on the intense Game Twelve, scoring an impressive 8 points, equal to victories in as many normal games otherwise. Aided by zero ping, STONEWALL continued the devastation, routinely inflicting 150 pts of damage a game. Renwood SD 2018 retained his elevated position in the rankings, putting out impressive numbers on games Two, Eight and Twelve, easily captaining his way to a contender spot in the critical second place position. ndrwgn -ww2- demonstrated why he is not only an asset in team games but also a dangerous play-maker, averaging 100+ damage on each outing. New-comer William Wallace gave Kryptos a run for his money - however, the disappearance of NE Patriots and oogaBooga ensured that Kryptos was able to build off his strong Week Two performance, easily placing himself within striking distance of the top slots.

This week was particularly notable for the increase in core competency. Players routinely evolved complicated maneuvers, ranging from cavalry rear-actions and artillery cannonades to bayonet charges and schwerpunkt concentrations. Men were literally blown to pieces and cut to shreds. The focus on small unit activity produced dividends when maps were scaled up towards the four hour mark. The result was series of notably intense battles such as the 3 vs 3 North vs South battle royale, or the last man standing unreinforced cauldron firefight that emerged on Rappahannock.

Recap:

Due most likely to everyone being at Halloween parties (myself included) Week Four was cut short after only two points games (4+ players) although several interesting 2 v 1s were played as well. A few new-comers were added to the roster, most notably Jahral TOAD who set himself up to a good start, although late in the tournament. Kryptos and STONEWALL added a few notches to their scores, but otherwise, due to the low turnout, there's not much to report for this brief week, a real missed opportunity for the point leaders to make a breakout.

Week Five next week (3 November) will conclude the tournament, which, according to the standings, is currently a near tie between Renwood SD2018, Ndrwgn -ww2-, and Argos TGP, with the latter still holding the all important second place position. Hopefully we can send the tournament out with a bang!
